From your backyard to your favourite national park, nature is closer than you think. It’s time to get out and enjoy it.
‘Connecting People to Nature’, the theme for World Environment Day 2017, implores us to get outdoors and into nature, to appreciate its beauty and its importance, and to take forward the call to protect the Earth that we share. It is the biggest annual event for positive environmental action that takes place every 5 June. This year’s host country Canada got to choose the theme and will be at the centre of celebrations around the planet.
The day itself is for everyone, everywhere. Since it began in 1972, global citizens have organised many thousands of events, from neighbourhood clean-ups, to action against wildlife crime, to replanting forests. This year’s theme invites you to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. It challenges us to find fun and exciting ways to experience and cherish this vital relationship.
The National Green Standard Award
One of the best ways to show your support for the environment is through the achievement of the National Green Standard Award, which shows that you are doing your bit to support sustainable practices within your organisation, that you are a good neighbour and that you treat your people with respect and dignity. You can start this journey today to join the growing band of organisations that are showing their ethical credentials through this independently assessed Award.
The NGSA assessment process starts with an online questionnaire to guide you through key aspects of the Standard. Once complete you will be contacted by your assessor to agree the next steps, put dates in the diary for onsite activity and to let you know how much the whole process will cost. The assessment is designed to be as non-disruptive as possible so that you and your team can get on with the day job while the assessor collates evidence and score that against the NGSA criteria.
It’s a win-win scenario. So what are you waiting for? Take a look at the NGSA and do your bit for your world. When you are ready to find out more email firstname.lastname@example.org or call us on 0333 006 2220.
